October 2, 2009 // wedding
I believe that life is in the details, the little things, they add up, and they build towers of strong memories, they leave our hearts so full - those little moments of beauty have so much power.

Steph and Jessea's wedding was a thing of beauty, made of many special details. Their location choice of Seabreeze Lodge on Hornby Island was the stage, a stunning local, that has a romantic, warm, down to earth vibe. The decor details were stunning, from the flowers, to the table decorations they all pulled together beautifully (Krylea Creative rocked the decor.)
The gals were stunning, (the gals from Roots Salon came over from Courtenay,) and the men were handsome and full of swagger.

The ceremony was held just above the shore line, and the rain cleared just before Steph walked down the aisle - perfection.

Afterwards there were toasts, photos and a dream reception. What makes a reception a dream? Friends, with so many kind and varied words, speeches full of truths shared and hopes heartfelt. When I looked around the room I saw people looking at their neighbor sharing smiles and laughs.

I hope this day will always seem like yesterday for them!

Tia and Shaun were a last minute addition to our summer schedule, a welcome addition. A week before their wedding they found themselves without a photographer. Tia's maid-of-honor  Darragh, put a 911 call in to me on the Monday before the Sunday wedding - saying no just wasn't an option, thankfully so, because we had such a good time with these two.
The wedding, held at Mt Washington Resort, had the drama of a good rain storm, but of course, this didn't damper Tia and Shaun's mood one bit. They rolled through some photos before their ceremony, and after their I do's while we shot a few family photos the sun came out for a quick hello. It was a wonderful day, which culminated in an incredibly fun and warm reception - I can't imagine Shaun and Tia in any other environment.
Congratulations Tia and Shaun, I am so glad we got to partake in your day - you are both stunning!

Christine and Richard chose Sarah McLachlan's song Ordinary Miracle as their wedding song. John and I were just listening to it and realized it is a perfect wedding song. I am actually quite surprised I haven't heard it before at a wedding - I like that it isn't your typical wedding song, as it isn't just about a couples love. John, who was my assistant at the wedding said "this song let's more people join in the feelings of the day." - and that is exactly why it was the perfect choice for Christine and Richard. It sums them up.

Let me share another moment from the wedding. As the couple are about to cut their cake, a three year old guest, comes up and makes herself part of the action.  As her parents go to remove her Richards says " it's fine, she is part of us."

I hope this rambling makes sense, maybe you had to be there. But Christine and Richard, have a special quality that makes you feel you are part of them. When we first met we talked and talked and found many things in common, I think they could do that with anyone.

Grace, honesty, a down-to-earth quality and optimism  - they possess all these characteristics and with those qualities, and the love between them, I am sure so much goodness and strength awaits them.

They said I do at Pacific Shores, an absolutely stunning location for a wedding. We just did a quick photo session and this is what happened......

John Johnson :

Karen told me that I would connect with you and she didn't lie (anyone who has a headlamp fetish has my respect.) It was a great way to spend day.

Christine:

Thanks for capturing the magic of my little treed picnic spot, for giving up your Sunday off and for bringing John. The day went by so fast but you two kept up through all of the chaos and helped keep it under control. I know you've had a long day but when you get a chance I'd sure appreciate it if you'd change the 'a' to an 'e'. I was only prepared for my last name to change when I got married :-). Don't forget to find time to dance even if classes aren't in the cards right now.

Jenna:

Karen, once again you captured the essence of these two as only you could! You are so amazingly talented. The pics are beautiful!

A little gift came our way this week in the form of Lisa and Dru. For over a year Theresa and I have been having phone chats about their Miracle Beach elopement and her bubbly fun-loving personality and excitement for the day was contagious. As Christine and I headed out to meet them I was telling Christine how absolutely fabulous they were - I think I built them up quite a bit. Christine had high expectations - which Lisa and Dru - blew out of the water big time with their kindness and passion with each other.

These two have so much fun together, I know their life is going to be filled with adventure and laughter.

After their wedding we played on the beach, headed into town (a little pop in at Atlas to mix things up,) and then to Seal Bay.
As you can tell from the photos, these two do not lack any personality and original style. Thinking about them makes me smile - thanks Lisa and Dru

Note: I think we have the blog-shows working smoothly now - if you have any problem please shoot me an email or leave me a note in the comments.

I love my job!

I could list the reasons, or you could just hop down to the photos of the beauty that is Tara + Daryl and you will know why.

But first, let me digress.

My blog serves many purposes. In my opinion, when choosing a wedding photographer there are three many things to consider. Obviously the first is that you love their work, in a tie for second place are making sure the photographer is  professional and that you like and will connect with them.  The blog forces me to show recent work, not just my fave's or an old image I am proud off, weekly you are seeing what I produce , in all shooting conditions. The blog also serves as a way to get to know me, which is especially important for the clients from out of town who I don't meet until their wedding day.

Since I have been blogging, I notice that my connection with wedding clients is stronger, perhaps they are letting their guard down more with me because I am sharing with them, or maybe they are picking me because they know, after reading the blog, that we will click.

Whatever the case, it is working. Tara was a perfect example.

I knocked on her door and we were off - chatting, laughing and sharing, and hopefully this put her at ease. I know that I felt like I could easily sit down and talk life with her - and all this adds to the love I have off photographic.

Now that I have gone on a tangent, let me take you back to the wedding.

Driving up to Bear Mountain (an amazing wedding location) the weather gave us quite a show, rain, sun, rainbows, brutal rain, gorgeous clouds, gusts of wind - and it all added up to the perfect day, the weather and stunning views at Bear Mountain created a backdrop of drama for a day of complete beauty.

The bride and groom were stunning, and were surrounded by their closest friends and family.  I love an intimate wedding. I know that each person there  is incredibly important to the couple. I love that the bride and groom are totally relaxed and I love the barrels of laughter that seems to happen at a small wedding.

A huge thank you to Dana at Bowes Photography and Brandy (Tara's stunning bridesmaid) from Fresh Sugar Photography for recommending me (if you want to see some lovely work, fill your coffee cup, turn your screen so your boss can't see, and settle in and pass the afternoon on their sites.)

Tara and Daryl, thank you so much for having me as your photographer.  Your wedding was nothing short of perfect.

NOTE TO VIEWER: These photos are in what is called a Blog Show, it allows me to show more photos. However, your computer needs to have the most recent Flash and Java update to view it. These are free updates that are very common and safe to download and install. Enjoy!
