A true beauty, full of grace  -

Sometimes the words pour out of me. Typically I am pretty articulate. But sometimes I am stumped. I have been composing this blog post in my mind since Trish booked her maternity session. Yet, basically I keep coming up blank. I have realized why. You can't sum up Trish in words, because she is a feeling - when you are with her you feel it - there is a special Trish energy - from that radiants peacefulness, beauty and grounding.  That's all I am going to say - if you know her you, most likely you are nodding right now.

A little storm didn't scare Doug and Lisa away from a morning portrait session. We received the gift of some character skies, active waves and vibrant colors for this fall session.  Although rain was looming the whole time the skies didn't open up until the minute I put my camera bag in the car (literally) - I love it when that happens.

It was so lovely to help them celebrate their relationship and get to know these two!

Ohhh... I am in love - I am in love with wedding photography, and the best part of wedding photography, my wedding clients. I am so excited for the 2012 season - and in my top ten of reasons why is Tasha and John.

My first meeting with them had me super excited for their wedding, they are interesting, funny and hilarious! I can't stress how much I love the chance to photograph my couples before their wedding day - not only does it allow them the opportunity to experience being photographed but we get the chance to further connect, which makes the wedding day photos that much more fun.

We met last week in Victoria and just played. Despite a bleak weather forecast we were blessed with beautiful light.
We started out photographing around The Union Pacific Coffee Shop. While I was sitting there planning the shoot, I was also scheming ways to have the life I love, but in Victoria - (the location and best ice-tea I have ever had was pretty seductive.) We ended our session where John had proposed to Tasha, at the Parliament Buildings -  it was lovely photographing them there as they recounted the story.

Tasha and John jumped in easily to being photographed, seriously, check out this first photo - don't you think they maybe have modelled professionally and just hid it from their friends and family. Sorry if I have let your secret slip.....

I had  an affinity for the Nesling clan before I photographed them - now it is even stronger.

The Neslings are half of the foursome that run Zen Zero Juice Fountain and Vegan Restaurant on 5th Street. Their smoothies are a regular go-to item for those busy days where I know I am needing a healthy lunch hit - and their broccoli salad is in my top-ten list of fave Comox Valley food items. However, as well as running their restaurant they are also busy running their busy home with three young children.
I feel a special bond with couples who run businesses and run a household full of children.

I was really looking forward to this session - to be honesty - mostly because I wanted to get to know Davinder and Marussia better and see them in action with their parent hat on. What I saw was two people who clearly have a vision for their family - one of playfulness, love and creativity. Their three, very different children, broke my heart with their sweetness and tenderness and made me laugh out loud with their child like ways.

This is truly a family in motion and in love.

Thank you for letting me witness it with my camera.

Oh - did I mention they are all stunning!

September 28, 2011 // my life / portraits
It was one of those mornings where it was raining one block, then sunny the next, then dark clouds the following - a typical Comox Valley fall day!
Despite the weather's uncertainty we headed out and were sweetly rewarded with beautiful light. I was rewarded with a couple who totally adore each other and fit together completely naturally.
Thanks Dean and Louise, I had such an inspiring morning with you!

Louise:

Thanks Karen, for such a wonderful morning! We had such a great time during this session with you. Thank you so much for capturing those "moments" that we have every day but never see from "outside" of where we are... can't wait to see the rest of the photos.
