December 12, 2011 // love list / portraits
This is a special family. I first met them when we had their maternity session for their first child. It was different session then planned, instead of being in Comox we created the session in Vancouver, near the Women's and Children's hospital, where they had to be due to complications with their pregnancy.  They welcomed me into their lives to document their story to share at the YANA 2011 Fundraiser - their heart, resilience and honesty moved me.  Their first son Kai and is now a thriving funny little boy, however, the family had to go through quiet the ordeal, emotions and roller-coaster - to say the least.

So little Finley's smooth and easy entry into their family was such a blessing, as was photographing him. This little man, looks identical to his brave older brother, which just warmed my heart.

Finley, your family is so strong and so full of love and grace. You are a blessed little man.

This year I had the pleasure of shooting many couples and no, not just new couples, many, if not most were celebrating years together. The sessions ended up being one of the highlights of the year, they were romantic, creative and fun and funny - there was definitely an abundance of laughter.
I can't wait to photograph more ......these photos are all about celebration.

Corrina Cornforth:

Have these coupons already been spoken for? I would love to get one for me and the hubby! Does this just cover the session cost? How much is it for digital images of the shoot? Loving your 12 Days of Christmas, Karen!

Karen McKinnon:

Thanks Corinna, these ones have, but more are coming up - thanks for letting me know you are enjoying it, we are having tons of fun with it. The best way to know if they are gone is to follow on facebook. And yes, it is for the creation then there are many choices for items afterwards.

I have come to know Sarah and Derek through photographing their daughter and as a groupie of their hand-made pasta at Prontissima Pasta.
If you stop by there to pick up dinner you will: have a relaxing evening, impress your family and friends with your culinary skills and be supporting a fabulous family run business. I am seriously a groupie. Their shop is in Tin-Town, also known as Rosewall Crescent and you can also find them at the Saturday Farmers Market.

This photo session just clicked so easily, we created quite a bit of variety, studio images, with and without their daughter and then despite the chill we headed outside for some photos. These two really jumped to me, as it shows the grace and ease these two have! Sarah is just glowing and is stunning.
