About Me

Hello and welcome to my photo blog. I am Karen McKinnon, a Vancouver Island based photographer - a gal fortunate to be living my passion. The blog is where you can see recent sessions, keep in touch with what is new around here (and I promise you it is never dull) and get a better sense of who I am, what I love and how I show it.

Thanks for visiting. Please leave a comment and let me know you were here - it really does make me smile!

Meet Peyton. I first met Peyton when I photographed her at Children's hospital. When most parents are at home celebrating their new arrival and picturing their hopes for the future Peyton's mom Nicole spent five months visiting her daughter, living day to day, praying her new daughter would make it.

Now Payton is a happy 21 month year old beauty. She is full of personality and strength. She still faces many challenges and her family is doing everything possible to give her all she needs.

Her family just found out about a Therapy called CME Therapy. CME, the acronym for Cuevas Medek Exercise, is a physical therapy approach for infants suffering abnormal developmental motor evolution caused by a known or unknown non-degenerative syndrome affecting the Central Nervous System.CME Therapy has a very high success rate in helping children with low muscle tone learn to walk.

The family would have to go to Toronto to get treatment for Payton as there is no one else in Canada with the qualifications.

Her family is having a garage sale this weekend to raise funds:

587 Powerhouse Road Saturday and Sunday 9am-3pm

Pop by, do some shopping and help the family feel supported. I will keep you posted on any other events to raise money in the valley.

Here is Payton just a few weeks ago playing in the studio.

She is a beautiful inspiring girl, and they can use all the support they can get

Peyton's journey has been and will continue to be an inspiring one. She is fortune to have a family that won't give up on her. Which, despite her challenges, makes her a very blessed little girl.

I sat down at 9 a.m., ready to roll. Eeekkk..
The internet was down. I realized two things. One I am an internet adict. THe whole thought of my office being off-line threw my work game face off. Two, that once again, as per my previous post, I had to roll with it..

So my day did not include the mass amount of blogging that I had hoped for, but before the dinner bell sounds (who am I kidding? No magic dinner bell that signals a healthy meal being placed on the table is going to happen, but a girl can dream,) I had to share some of the fabulous Churchill family.

The little man Westin has been in front of the camera with me before, and once again he brought the cute, as his big sister. Well, actually, they are all really darn cute! Love this family - thank you for choosing me as your family photographer.

With a name like Landis we knew right of we would like her, yah, sometimes Christine and I are simple like that. Or maybe it's just that we have great intuition. From the moment the exteneded phone and email tag began with Landis, she was awesome, patiently checking in with us and the rest of her crew to find a time that worked for a long awaited portrait.

I was thrilled that her family included her dad Mark, who I know from his work at Community Futures, her sister Chelsea, who I worked with when she lived here and was a wedding co-ordinator, and Quintin, who was the icing on the session.

There's a few of you out there, you know who you are. Every time we cross paths you tell me you have been wanting to book a session, that you keep meaning to make it happen. The gorgeous Kira, was one of you, but not anymore. A few weeks ago, on a lovely evening that was threatening a bit of rain, I headed out to their property for a much overdue session.
We did a variety of groupings and I am pretty sure I created some new favorites.

I have a group of pals, that I value SO strongly, they are the book club gals, every woman should have a book club crew - I guarantee they will quickly start holding a place of deep honor in your life.

We just welcomed a new one into the book club family, little Myla. I have photographed her brother before and he is full of personality and an absolute stunner, and when I look at Myla I see a mini version of her big brother. She is beyond adorable!

Bevin, Reza, you make beautiful babies and I am so glad I am the lucky one who gets to photograph them. I am looking forward to seeing the personality this beauty brings into your wonderful family.
