Typically I work Saturday's but am typically firm about Sunday being time with family. And yes, sometimes I take a whole weekend off. This long weekend I photographed Thursday night, Friday and Monday, but Saturday and Sunday were chill time - that count's as a weekend off doesn't it?
I started the fabulous long weekend with the Hughes Family. When I think off this session I just smile - as that is what we did the whole time. Mom Michelle, who you might recognize from Comox Valley Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (she is kind-of famous for being awesome at what she does,) has been talking about a session with me for years, and I find a great satisfaction in finally capturing someone's family who has meant to do so for years. The children, right now, are at an ideal age to photograph, they are funny, their own person, and still very cuddly with mom and dad. I have family photos of me at that age and I truly treasure them.

My favourite moment in this session was when I was just photographing the kids and I was setting up and asked them to come together and they moved right into a hug together - so sweet and loving.

This session was the ideal session to kick off a fabulous long weekend ... Such a loving and connected family.
more from the weekend soon......

A sweet Friday night, one that finally feels like summer, I pull up to a favorite place, and suddenly I age. The lovely family that rolls out of the car did so once before with me, ten years ago - mom Tammy looks the same, gorgeous and natural, but Brittany and Jordan, now 16 and 18 were much different when they were last in front of my lens.
I remember them, they truly were one of my very first clients here. I am so thankful for that, for them, and the families who supported me when I made that move from a big city girl to try my hand at small town living.
The last ten years have been good to me, and the rewards are sweet - especially when I get to stand in a beatiful spot with three amazing people, who are willing not only to have me photograph them again, but to share a laugh with me.

The photos came together so naturally, and we had to grab a few of Jordan as it is his grad year - it was an easy shot to get, thanks to Brittany who was able to provide from kind sister teasing.

The Weber's have kicked off a string of beautiful family portrait bookings I have had this week. I am really enjoying that people are taking the time and making the investment in photographing them with their little people.
These photos will only grow in value, and I can promise you will always be happy you had them created.
This session when smooth as smooth can be. Cole and Caleb are sure charmers and for their ages, were seriously easy to work with. They also happen to be adorable, and a glance and mom and dad will tell you that good looks run in this crew.

I really struggled with which photo to blog, and ultimately picked this one, although there were serious debates around the office as to if we preferred it in black and white or color.

Color won, for the blog, but as for hanging in the home, I think black and white would be stunning.

Thanks Weber family, you are fabulous!

Young Love

it's the sweetest. Angela and Tim, have it all together, they are both doing jobs they love and they are in-love. I don't think they quite realize how it radiates from them. She smirked  as she told me about how she sits through "his" movies, they  gazed at each other when they shared that their favorite dinner was crepes with a side of bacon, whenever she giggled (which she did often,) he would laugh.

Spending time with them was the sweetest thing -

Casey was the lucky recipient of a recent Roots the Salon make-over which included a photo session. You can see her submission here. She was tons of fun to shoot, we played around in the studio and capture a few different looks - this one jumped out to me, she looks gorgeous and you know I love me some compositional negative space. As usual the Roots crew did an amazing job - hair was by Meagan and make-up by Chrystal. Thanks Casey - I love you beautiful, story telling eyes. blight23.jpg

One of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. It has been an honor to call her 'friend'.
