About Me

Hello and welcome to my photo blog. I am Karen McKinnon, a Vancouver Island based photographer - a gal fortunate to be living my passion. The blog is where you can see recent sessions, keep in touch with what is new around here (and I promise you it is never dull) and get a better sense of who I am, what I love and how I show it.

Thanks for visiting. Please leave a comment and let me know you were here - it really does make me smile!

I am a tad behind on blogging and such as we are switching things up. We are finally doing the pc to mac move. Why haven't we done it before? Well, I have been PC since the beginning of time and I am damn fast at it, if I don't say so myself, plus the thought of switching over all my software ... ughhh
I dipped my toe in the Mac water for the first time last year -
I have never been a lover of the PC laptop and I became a proud owner of a mac book - which made me wonder if the PC laptops should be banned due to stone-age like efficiency (they don't even look nice!), plus I am convinced my I-phone has changed my life - so as they say, once you taste the candy there is no going back.

However, I guess sometimes you do have to take a step back before moving forward and so we have.  Although the computer is faster - I currently definitely am not. But, we'll get there ..meanwhile be patient if you are waiting for a sneak peek.

I want to give a big shout out to Richard and Bob at My Tech for answering all my annoying questions and to Matt from Primetek Computers for coming to make sure everything is running, syncing and beeping just like it should.

On another note, I had a fabulous weekend, it actually did not rain for most of my sessions, I hit up a great birthday party, ref'ed a roller derby game and went to my daughter's school fundraiser - The Comox Valley Montessori School's Annual Tea.

A huge high five to the organizers for putting on a such a fabulous event.

We are mid computer switch over. Finally making a PC to Mac move. Yes, finally. So, I really have nothing to do at this moment. Which is odd, because I always have lots to do.
Emails, processing, burning.. busy.. busy.
But right now I can't access any of my information. So, I figure I might as well take this time to adjust. You know you spend tons of time on the computer when a new screen makes you feel like you have been drinking vodka since sunrise. My eyes feel cross-eyed and nothing is where it usually is.
The new computer is faster and will be more efficient, however, I know it will be a huge step backwards before we leap forward.

So, as I continue my day of doing nothing on my to-list, I am hoping that you are having a fabulous Thursday.

I hope to be back on my productivity game, and with a photo blog post tomorrow - we'll see..

Natalie Woods:

The adjustment will be well worth the switch! I used PC's until about 4years ago when I switched to a MacBook and finally almost 2years ago to a iMac. It took a bit of getting used to after years of using PC desktops, but I am SO happy I did it. I no longer worry about viruses and trojans like I did with my PC (I was taking it into the shop every 3months to get wiped, no matter what program I ran for security, couldn't stop the viruses and trojans!).

Hope you're enjoying a day off to relax and look forward to your next post! =)

Thanks Natalie, it was my macbook that sucked me in.. I love them, just frustrating learning all those shortcuts again..

I truly wish all women could look at themselves and let the things they love about themselves roll of their tongue. I wish they could see their reflection in the mirror and say, hell ya! "This gal has something going on". I wish they could look forward to their own photoshoot thinking "wow, it is going to be amazing to document my favorite bits about myself." Well.. it doesn`t quite happen that way. But things are heading in the right direction. Over the last few years I have had an increasing amount of woman call to book a session - just because. This, makes me very happy.
They are celebrating themselves.
Typically, they are nervous. Fair enough. But I tell you, there is no reason to be shy - I guarantee that after 10 minutes we will be laughing, sharing and the parts of you that you adore will be shining and maybe, just maybe, you will move that one step further away from your inner critique.

When Deborah booked, she told me that she was prepared for it to be worse than being at the dentist, this doesn`t look like a woman who has been sitting under a drill.

After her session Deborah sent me a message about what a great time she had and how special it was  - made my day - okay my week. Thank you Deborah for jumping in and trusting me, I had such a lovely time sharing with you and capturing you - you are a beautiful, brave and inspiring. This photo has so much of you in it.

Happy Wednesday everyone, I have a spring in my step this morning as I am off to teach a private photo session, which is going to make for a fabulous morning.

I couldn't resist another blog post, everyone works so hard to make this show happen, and the kids and their excitement always gives me goosebumps.
Thank you everyone, especially the dancers, for a great week -

The famous Dad's Dance, and some musical theatre talent:
