Well Christine, isn't my wifey, nor do I ever call her wifey, but she kind of is my work wife. When you work just two people side by side, you get in each others business big time. You know each other's quirks, you don't have to finish your sentence, and you can do what we call family speak, which can involve everything from getting right to the point, to having so many conversational tangents that the point is seven thoughts removed by the time you finish your sentence. So Christine is my work wife, and I appreciate her, her integrity, hard work and her sense of humour deeply.
Tomorow is her birthday, and you know around here we don't take birthday's lightly. Even though we have piles of work to do, I pulled the "boss card" and told her she had to go to yoga and then we are heading out for a nice lunch at Local's, and I am looking forward to handing over a sweet little gift (oh.. how I love to tease.)
These photos were actually taken late summer. One of the perks of working with me is photo sessions whenever you want, but that doesn't guarantee you a quick turn around time. I promised Christine I would have them ready for her birthday, but I did even better - birthday eve.
Happy Birthday Eve Christine!
Here is the birthday girl with her husband Steve, daughter Anaia and pup Wesley.
The little person is rockin' this photo

Selah wants you to know that you are the best assistant and friend in the history of
photo assistant friends. I think our whole family concurs!!!
The Love:
1. There's a new blogger on the scene and I am crushing on her big time. Check out Sadie the Receptionist, she's razor sharp and brimming with sass - she writes like she has nothing to loose. She mans the desk, and much more over at Roots the Salon and will give you the inside scoop to the shenanigans there.
2. While we are are on a blog role, if you haven't checked out Island Girl Dairy Free Betty, you can join my fan club for her - love this gals recipes. This week is her first blogiversary, so it's a good day to check her out and leave her some love.
3. Freewheeling. My life actually brings many responsibilities, yet I try to be as freewheeling as possible. Part of that is throwing some travel in. Next year, I have California (a family visit), Mexico (finally Maggie's Make a Wish Trip,) Hawaii (a fabulous wedding... weeee) and now I am thinking of adding Kelowna, for a visit with a great friend a few days of shooting portraits.
4. Can there be a love list without a mention of the Love for Jenn movement. We are gearing up for the big auction tomorow night, and seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me with all the donations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many kudos to go around on this one. Melanie, Trish, you two better be dressing up as superheros, and Crown Isle - you brought your giving A game to this one. Well done Comox Valley.
The Not so much Love list
4. Will it or won't it rain? That's the big question around here every November - obviously the weathers' mood greatly impact my day, obviously. I wish it would just make up it's mind in the morning and stay the course. At the same time, the quick weather change we get in the valley always wows me. If you see a black car pulled over on the side of the road it is probably me, oggling the light, trying to digest how stunning it can be.
I pulled over and grabbed this shot - it's called "will it or won't it" Zero photoshop was used in it, that black cloud is au natural.

5. Three days of no sugar and wheat, and I have eaten many, many chips. Also, could someone please invent a wheat free beer. Please and thank you.
Cheers!

(10.29.10 @ 01:18 PM)Wheat free beer? Doesn't everything abiding by the Bavarian Purity Act qualify? (I suppose Coors would qualify too since it is made from rice, sake yeast, and lots of water... but, well, you're right, it just isn't beer.)
Love the black cloud photo.
(10.29.10 @ 01:25 PM)I have just googled and learned about hordein, the "gluten" of barley. I stand corrected.
(10.29.10 @ 01:28 PM)Thanks for the love Karen!!! You're the bestest!! xoxoxox
(10.29.10 @ 03:11 PM)Okay, let's be serious.
Multi-generations photo sessions, they get me, they make me emotional. They remind me of when my Granny and Zeda (the Jewish word for grandfather) had their 50th anniversary and the family hired a photographer. I look back at those photos, and despite my perm, and black and white poofy lace layered dress with the large shoulders, and even despite the fact that the photos were not in focus at all (no really not at all!) - they meant the world to me then, and are a complete treasure to me now.
So, as I often say to my clients, you think your photos are for you, and yes, they are for you, but the true value of them lays with your children - who see them hanging on your wall and are reminded of the importance of family, and years from now will appreciate even more that you took the time to have them created.
So, there were fall leaves, there was sun, but the abundance lied in the feeling.
Websters I challenge you to see this photo only as a black and white. Yes, there are fall leaves in the shot, with their stunning colors, but what I see and feel when I take in this photo is the connection to the grandchildren -the feeling - the love.

and of course there was play ....

oh, that first photo, combined with your words, made me cry - beautiful

(11.02.10 @ 04:47 PM)Mackenzie's name kept popping across my radar a few years back, and then when Christine came into the office and was all "Mackenzie this, Mackenzie that" - I knew I had to figure out what the big deal was.
And she is a big deal. Mackenzie Gartside is a local mortgage broker, of Mackenzie Gartside & Associates, and as I found out when I recently used her services professionally, she is all that.
I was blown away by her personal service, patience in explaining numbers, and commitment to taking care of their clients even after you have signed on the dotted line.
So, here's where to find her if you want a Mortgage Broker - website
Mackenzie works along side the lovely Lisa Gurney and Kevin Neimi.
Now, here's the inside scoop, something I was wondering for awhile, yes, Kevin and Mackenzie are an item and I have proof.
Here they are with the very charming and easily photographed Payton.

and of course Peyton needed her own moment in front of the camera

Thank you so much Karen. We knew the photos were going to be incredible, but what really amazed me was how great the whole experience was to make them. Can't wait for the viewing appointment later this week!
(11.08.10 @ 12:12 PM)ok
let me be honest, I don't eat wheat unless I am somewhere with a really good dessert and I just take a couple bites
and
I shouldn't eat sugar, and I try not to, but sometimes I do, one bite, becomes two, becomes three...
I know avoiding eating sugar and wheat is trendy in these parts, and for me, I am happy to be on that bandwagon.
I have psoriasis. I am one of those people that have never been allergic to anything, isn't picky, doesn't get sick easily, I am made of hardy stock. So when this psoriasis thing showed up on the scene, I started first with the creams, I tried everything, pure, not pure, from the natural pharmacy, with the chemicals - heck, I even made some creams. Nothing helped.
So I turned to diet and learned that for me the psoriasis is agitated by sugars and wheat. It's isn't a 100% miracle solution but it helps. I was so very, very good for a year, and I felt fabulous, and the last six months I have weakened
Which is silly. I know how good I felt without sugar in my diet, I was free of cravings, and filled my body with more fruit and veg. Yet, I succumbed, because sometimes, when it comes to my home baking or the sticky date putting at Avenue, I am like a five year old with no will power.
But, I am gathering my will power and the sugar, which is my absolute weakness, will be gone - salt and vinegar chips will be my new love. Starting today.
Now you all know, and just maybe that will strengthen my will power and help me be a grown-up.
Thank you!
On a totally unrelated note - I was just cleaning out some files and found this self-portrait from Justine and Ian's wedding this summer and it made me happy.

I am supporting Karen's sugar-free lifestyle by not bringing some ultra-chocolatey fudge crackle cookies that I made this weekend. I have eaten most of them already. I got your back, Karen.
(10.26.10 @ 12:49 PM)

If I wasn't laughing so hard from the utter truth of every word of this post, I would surely be bawling my eyes out. You are the best "boss" a wifey could ever ask for, and I am so happy to spend my birthday week with you! xoxo
