Welcome to day one of 12 days of Christmas. The culmination of my celebration of my 10th anniversary of photographing in the Comox Valley. For the next 12 days, each day, there will something a little special listed on the blog and on my facebook page.

Here's how it works:

- Each day I will post something a special, two for one's, savings and some special products for clients who have already had a session this year.
- You must be a fan on Facebook to receive it or already be a client.
- Most, but not all, of the spaces are first come first serve. Either email to info@mckinnonphotography.com or call 250-890-9222. Even if we are not able to answer your call due to being on a shoot, we will know who called/emailed first and we will be in touch.

You are going to want to mark your Calendar for Monday as that is the day my 12 Days of Christmas kicks off.
As my way of celebrating 10 years of photographing in the Comox Valley, all year, each month I have had a little special promo that has been offered through my blog. Dec 5th will see the give-aways and specials culminate with 12 days of celebrations.
From Dec 5 to 17th, each day I will offer up something special. The offers are first come first serve and are limited to those that follow McKinnon Photography on facebook.

What can you expect?
Two for one portraits
Specials on prints for those that had sessions in 2011
A spot in the January Boudoir Marathon
A fabulous deal on Baby's First Year Collection
Specials on portrait gift certificates and more.....

Then, on the last day - it's the one that gets me really excited -

I will be asking for nominations of a charity that would benefit from professional photography. I will work first with that charity to help them develop ideas on how professional photography can assist their goals, I will create the photos and  then see the project through to how they can use the images. During the last few years I have worked with numerous charities, most famously, You Are Not Alone (YANA) to help make the emotional connection for people on what they do.

Please get your thinking caps on a charity that you are passionate about that would benefit. The charity must be in the Comox Valley area, and must be aware that you are nominating them - that's all - it's simple - then just email me at info@mckinnonphotography.com.

The chosen charity will be announced at Christmas.

All the details will be announced on 12th day of The 12 Days of Christmas, however, if you are impatient like me, please don't hold back on contacting us earlier.

I am was a big city gal. Living in a small town never was on my agenda, but a variety of romantic and well thought out decisions brought me to the Comox Valley ten years ago. I list it as one of the proudest choices, for many reasons... including this one.....

I had built a rapport with Melissa over the last year as circumstances resulted in the sessions being rescheduled. When the session became a "go" we decided to make it an extended family session - we figure that is what it was meant to be and that is why her sessions kept getting put off.
So it turns out her parents live on a property that I have coveted for , and I have photographed along side it for years ,always wondering about who lived in the beautiful house.  Secondly, my eldest step-daughter just changed schools and now studies along side Melissa's daughter, yes, a small coincidence, yet the big city girl that is still inside me, gets childishly excited when these things happen. The day after their session, a good friend of mine asked me if I had met this family - well small town coincidence, I of course had just photographed them!
Okay, maybe this all seems silly to you - but the connections that I get to make with my clients are meaningful to me - it helps me connect to who they are as a family and ads great joy to my work.

Thank you Blasco and crew.. I am so glad I live in your town.

A part of my business that I have kept quiet is the Boudoir Portraits that I create. What is Boudoir? It is stylish, sexy, beautiful, empowering, tasteful photographs of women.
Over the last year I have become extremely moved by these sessions. Women, typically come in nervous, walk out the door standing a bit taller and with a huge smile on their face. That is even before they see the photos. After seeing the images they are wowed - wowed at seeing their own beauty, proud that they took the step to have the photos created and excited to know that they will have them forever. Many women, have these photos created for gifts for their sweety, but most, do it for themselves. However, if it is a gift, it becomes something that you "give" but is secretly for you.

In order to make these sessions more accessible and to throw a little fun in the mix. I am offering The Boudoir Experience in January. As well as champage and make-up you will also have two photographers taking care of you. Photographing along-side me will be my long-time friend and photo assistant Jennifer Dodd from Powell River.

I know these sessions will fill up fast, so be sure to email or call if you would like to reserve a spot.  I will guide you through the process of what to bring and what to expect.

Also, if you would like to recieve a place as a gift, just pass on our number to your sweetie and we will take care of making sure a gift certificate ends up under your tree.

There is something really special about  a treehouse. What kid doesn't want one? Even now as an adult when I see one it makes me smile. When I photograph a family that has one, it leads me to a bucket of assumptions about them. Including, that it is a family that believes in play and joy.

Despite a chill, Heather, Mike, Madison and Aidan rocked out their session like it was a warm summer day - thank you!
