About Me

Hello and welcome to my photo blog. I am Karen McKinnon, a Vancouver Island based photographer - a gal fortunate to be living my passion. The blog is where you can see recent sessions, keep in touch with what is new around here (and I promise you it is never dull) and get a better sense of who I am, what I love and how I show it.

Thanks for visiting. Please leave a comment and let me know you were here - it really does make me smile!

November 5, 2009 //
I rarely throw any negativity up here, and my shiny rainbow attitude isn't a facade, truthfully I am a darn positive person. One of my best traits (if I do say so myself) and sometimes fault is that I see the good in people pretty much all the time. There isn't room in this person for hate or anger.

But - I am kind of pissed!

Let me set the stage:

I woke up to the kids telling me the coffee was covering the counter and the floor. Yup, that's the way to start the day, with two coffee soaked towels and none in your cup. I recovered and made tea - it was all good.

Then my session got rained out, it was an important one, but you just can't take seniors out  for photos in the storm we had today. I settled in for some kick-ass photoshopping. I was happy, really having a great productive day.

 The main event:

Christine headed out for a viewing at the studio and then called the office confused because the laptop she uses wasn't there, she was hoping I had grabbed it, but I am pretty sure her spideysense told her something wasn't right.

I told her I was on my way, (I also told her to put some coffee on, remember, I wasn't about to manage a crisis on a coffee-free day) and I cruised down there while I took mental inventory of the studio.

Our senses were right and the studio had been broken into, the cops came, the locksmith stood in the rain and took care of us (big thumbs up to Don's mobile locksmith.)

Here's the funny thing. The robbers were hungry. They broke in and made some soup, which was in the studio from the food bank donations during the Boo session. In order to make the soup they unpacked a microwave which we bought five months ago and have never got around to opening. After they had their soup they threw away the cans (I guess when you are robbing someone you don't think of recycling,) and washed their dishes. Seriously!!

They walked away with a few things, we had to cancel some work, we have a new to-do list and I am a day behind in some office work. Not bad, considering. I am really thankful that none of my albums or prints were damaged, that would have been very upsetting.

But, I am still pissed!

The wind-down

When I got home I had the pleasure of dealing with a clogged toilet. Now.... I am drinking.

The finger-print team came by, took some swabs and left with the microwave (which was finally unpacked,) for further examination.

That is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Who unpacks a microwave, makes soup + washes their dishes when they're breaking in?! Strange. Strange. Strange.

Oh my! Sounds like the robbers who broke into my sisters hair salon and took the time to make ice tea in the Brita Water container.....soooooo upsetting! Just awful. The fingerprints they left behind will catch them in the end like they did in my sisters break in case!!!!

Karma will surely catch up to them. Wouldn't it be more fun if we could, though?

Hey Karen, bummer.
look into an alarm sysem. It's not that expensive, reduces your insurance rate, and gives you peace of mind. Mine has scared crooks away three time. They break in, but as soon as the alarm sounds they split without taking anything.

Cheers

Yah, it sucks, but it could have been way worse. We are going to install a 24 hour guard.
